Important Notice about Cookies

The law relating to cookies changes on 26th May 2011. The new rules require that cookies can only be placed on machines where the user has given their consent.  The technology for this doesn’t actually exist!  The EU brought in this law without reference to existing technology, so few websites are in a position to comply. The government has therefore ruled that there should be a phased approach to the implementation of these changes. We have already asked our third-party provider Statcounter.com to develop the best methods for obtaining your consent.

How does Chocolate Fish use cookies?

We use Google Analytics and Statcounter to track vistiors to pages of our website. These are important to us as they allow us to track how visitors to our site have found us, and which of our pages have been visited. The Information supplied by the cookies can help us analyse which of our advertising links are working, and which products are proving most popular. .

We cannot identify any individual from this cookie, only the ISP address, and the website link from which they may have come to us, and the pages of our website visited.   Information collected in this way cannot be used to identify you, nor do we keep it, other than as the simple number of visitors in any given period.

In the meantime, you can control cookies by setting your device to notify you when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. Microsoft's IE9 and the latest verson of Mozilla's Firefox already offer a setting to protect users from services which collect and harvest browser data and Google is working at integrating so-called 'Do Not Track' technologies into their Chrome browser.

How will Chocolate Fish comply with the law change?

We will ensure that we continue to provide you with clear and comprehensive information about the cookies we use, so that you can make informed decisions.

If you have any questions about this new law change, please contact privacy@chocolatefish.co.uk
